SUPPORT US

There are a number of ways for Volunteer4Free Kenya (V4FK) volunteers to help financially, though there are no obligations.  All V4FK activities are hands-on, allowing individuals a lot of direct influence.  This can be expressed via time, finance, material gifts, or a combination of the three.

Second-hand Items
We suggest volunteers look for opportunities to fill their luggage allowance with second-hand items they have lying around at home, which could be given out in Kenya.  This is a very practical way to donate, which is easily available to volunteers regardless of their economic background.

Educational Gifts
Besides the children at the hospital not having any teachers, there is also a lack in basic learning supplies.  This lack significantly reduces the potential for the children to move ahead with their education while at the hospital.

One practical gift volunteers can offer to the children in particular, would be to donate school supplies to be used within the V4FK teaching program.  These can include (but are not limited to) such items as pens, pencils, notebooks, textbooks, and so forth.  Providing the children with the necessary resources to advance their education is one of the most practical gifts one can give; and it doesn't cost an arm and a leg to offer either!

Other Hospital Donations

Besides school supplies, some other popular donation options for volunteers include:

  • toys, e.g. Lego

  • diapers

  • clothing

  • games prizes

  • crutches

But the options are not limited to the above, of course.  (We do request that volunteers check with the supervising nurse or doctor before presenting food gifts, however.)

Slum School Gifts

For volunteers working with the slum school project, some useful donation opportunities include:

  • pens and pencils

  • writing paper and exercise books

  • markers, highlighters, and crayons

  • school supplies of any sort

  • books, e.g. text books, story books, etc.

  • dictionaries
